The clash between Manchester City and Brentford carried significant weight for both sides at this stage of the season. Pep Guardiola’s team had drawn 3-3 with Everton in the previous round, allowing Arsenal to leapfrog them in the table. Another slip-up would have effectively ended their title hopes. Brentford, meanwhile, were chasing a sixth-place finish, which could secure a Champions League spot if Aston Villa win the Europa League and remain fifth in the Premier League.

City started with intensity, attacking predominantly down the left flank. Jeremy Doku repeatedly took on defenders, creating dangerous opportunities even when double-marked. The Belgian winger frequently cut to the byline and delivered crosses. In one such sequence, Erling Haaland headed wide, and on another occasion, he stabbed at goal from close range with his foot.
The first half saw City create numerous chances, though not all were clear-cut, but the pressure on the visitors remained relentless. At the other end, the only notable moments were a shaky claim by Gianluigi Donnarumma and a risky sliding tackle from Matheus Nunes that could have been a penalty but was deemed clean. Bernardo Silva also narrowly avoided a red card after aggressively catching an opponent during a break in play; the referee showed only a yellow, and VAR did not intervene.

The goalless first half left City anxious. That tension grew when Igor Thiago fired a dangerous shot from seven yards out in the 55th minute. The Brazilian missed his chance, but Doku did not. Having scored two curling efforts into the top corner in the previous match, he this time fired precisely into the far top corner. The Belgian is in sensational form at the end of the season.
However, a 1-0 lead remained nervy. Kevin Schade later appealed for a penalty after a push in the back, but the officials deemed the contact insufficient. Then, in the 75th minute, the result was effectively sealed. Haaland stabbed the ball into the net with his heel on the second attempt – his 26th Premier League goal of the season.

City did not let up after that and could have added more, but Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher produced several fine saves. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Omar Marmoush scored after a pass from Haaland. The final score was 3-0 – a convincing win for City, though it was marred by a late scuffle and an elbow to Phil Foden’s face during an aerial challenge.
This victory cut Arsenal’s lead at the top to just two points. Both teams have three matches remaining in the Premier League season.
