Barcelona midfielder Gavi has spoken out about his on-field altercation with Real Madrid forward Vinícius Jr. during the 35th round of La Liga, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the Catalan side.
“That’s football. Whatever happens on the pitch stays on the pitch. I told him to shut up. He is a fantastic player. Off the pitch, I am a completely different person. But on the pitch, he is very emotional—just like me,” Gavi was quoted as saying by journalist Fabrizio Romano on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account.
Following this match, Barcelona clinched the La Liga title early, sitting atop the league table with 91 points. Real Madrid currently occupies second place.
