The CEO of Formula 2 and Formula 3, Bruno Michel, has confirmed that the series is in discussions with the Montreal circuit management to include Canada as a permanent fixture on the calendar.
“Are Miami and Canada permanent fixtures in Formula 2? We are discussing it. Let’s just say that when it comes to Montreal, we are indeed in talks. With Miami, it’s a bit more complicated for one simple reason: Miami already has support races, and they are good ones. They have the Porsche and McLaren Trophy series, so it’s not that straightforward. To be honest, logistics are quite complex.
But yes, there is potential. We haven’t started discussions about the future yet because the focus was on making sure we could race there this year, and we did. However, we would like to come back. In any case, we would like Formula 2 to race in the U.S., and I am sure there will be other opportunities. As we know, Formula 1 also races in Austin and Las Vegas, so there are plenty of possibilities.
It is definitely important for Formula 2, which has never been to North America, to be present there. It’s crucial for F2 to have visibility, and it’s very important for American drivers to want to join F2, as Colton Herta or Sebastian Montoya have done, and then try to move into Formula 1. So yes, for the entire Formula family, not just F2, it is important that F2 races in North America—no doubt about it,” Michel told RacingNews365.
