Former USSR and Russia international, ex-Spartak midfielder Alexander Mostovoy has stated that he will not regard Krasnodar head coach Murad Musaev as a true football person, even if the latter secures a second consecutive Premier League title.
“I’ve given thousands of examples of football people becoming champions: Zidane, Enrique, Ancelotti, and so on. They’ve lived through real football life. But isolated cases like this exist in every profession. Send Musaev to Pari NN, and I’ll see how long he lasts. Our league is filled with non-football people. At the start of the season, there were ten managers who never played professional football. Now with the arrivals of Gusev and Evseev, the number of non-football people has slightly decreased,” Mostovoy said.
When asked about José Mourinho, who also never played at a high professional level yet became a renowned coach, Mostovoy responded: “They say he played at least in the fourth division of Portugal. But if you put him at Brentford or Sassuolo, would he succeed? No, they’d get rid of him within a month,” Mostovoy was quoted as saying by Sovetsky Sport.
Before the 29th round of the RPL, Krasnodar were top of the table, one point ahead of Zenit. However, the Saint Petersburg side beat Sochi 2-1 on Saturday and moved into first place, now leading the bulls by two points. Musaev’s team will play away against Dynamo Moscow on Monday.
