Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman, who won bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has been handed a 20-month suspension for missing three doping tests, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) confirmed on Friday.
The AIU announced the ban on X, stating that Newman’s suspension runs from December 3, 2025. The ruling also nullifies all her results achieved after August 23, 2025.
Newman, 31, was initially provisionally suspended on February 3 after accumulating three missed tests within a 12-month window. The missed tests occurred on February 27, 2025, and then on June 17 and August 23 of the same year.
She has not competed since the Diamond League meeting in Rabat last May. The suspension marks a major setback for the athlete, whose Olympic bronze was a highlight of her career. The AIU emphasized that the penalty stems from location failures rather than a positive test for a banned substance. Newman has yet to comment publicly on the ruling.
