World No. 24 Anna Kalinskaya has revealed why she is not teaming up with Sorana Cirstea in the doubles draw at the WTA-1000 event in Rome, Italy.
— Why did you enter the doubles tournament here without Sorana Cirstea?
— I wanted to play doubles and asked if she would play with me. She said, ‘If I finish my singles early, I won’t stay here just for doubles because the doubles matches start very late compared to other tournaments.’ So she told me she wouldn’t play doubles here. We did sign up for Roland Garros together. Then, a day later, she changed her mind, but I had already found a partner, and it wouldn’t have been fair of me to make a change, — Kalinskaya said in an interview with Daniil Salnikov of Championat.
At the Rome WTA-1000, Kalinskaya is playing doubles with American Iva Jovic. In the first round, they defeated Eri Hozumi and Fangxian Wu 5:7, 6:3, 1:0 [10:6].
